Desert Rose Formation

These stunning Desert Rose Formations are truly a work of art!

Desert Rose Selenite, also known as Gypsum Rose or Sand Rose, is a type of Selenite formed from a combination of water, wind, and sand. Sand becomes embedded in Selenite blades, while additions of water over time help form the signature “rosette” formation.

Desert Rose Selenite is commonly found in deserts around the world in countries including Mexico, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Tunisia, and Afghanistan. There is also a unique type of desert rose or rose rock found only in Oklahoma. These specimens vary in color based on the sand as well as other minerals present in the rock in which it forms.

Desert rose is an intricate rose-like formation of crystal clusters consisting of gypsum or baryte. It tends to form in sandy and arid conditions. For example, they are likely to form in evaporated, shallow salt basins. Those with more salt in their composition make the desert rose more luminous.

Price is corresponding to size. Small is approximately 1 inch in diameter, Medium is approximately 2 inches in diameter. Large is approximately 5 to 7 inches in diameter.
