Jasper is an aggregate of microgranular quartz chalcedony, cryptocrystalline chalcedony, and other mineral phases. This mineral is an opaque, impure variety of silica with iron inclusions. These inclusions appear as red, yellow, brown, and green in color. On the Mohs scale of hardness, jasper lands a 6.5 to 7.
