Howlite is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide found in evaporite deposits. Its most common form is irregular nodules, which tend to resemble a cauliflower. These nodules are white and have fine grey or black veins in an erratic, web-like pattern. It has a monoclinic structure and a Mohs hardness of 3.5.
